When it comes to celebrities trolling their significant others, Chrissy Teigen takes the cake. (Some of you will say Blake Lively. Those who do are mistaken.) The chef and her singer-songwriter husband have been married for 11, the entire duration of which Teigen has been lovingly poking fun of her husband for the entertainment of literally millions of strangers.
One of our favorite jabs was this October 2013 photo of one of her husband’s early albums (then John Stephens), which Teigen captioned “Simultaneously unpacking and filing for divorce.”
Who could forget the time she kept him humble by taking credit for his Grammys?
Another hilarious zinger came in the form of this tweet, which Teigen sent out after the birth of the couple’s second child. “wow didn’t u just have a baby John,” wrote the mom, under a still of Legend at the Billboard Music Awards, “smh go take care of it !!!!! disgusting.”
But undoubtedly the #1 troll to end all trolls is Teigen masterfully making fun of her husband for looking like the cartoon character Arthur. As far as we can determine, Twitter user @sowahblanket launched the joke when she became the first person to draw a comparison between Legend and Arthur back in February of 2017.
At the time, the angry Arthur meme (“Arthur’s Fist”) was the viral meme du jour. Arthur’s Fist is a reaction image of the cartoon character’s clenched fist, accompanied by a caption describing an infuriating set of circumstances.
Naturally, Teigen had no choice but to use the Arthur’s Fist meme to explain her husband’s attitude regarding his cartoon doppelgänger.
John Legend responded to the tweet by claiming ignorance (we have our doubts.):
Which, naturally, caused fans on social media to troll him even harder:
Legend was a good sport about the entire thing. He changed his Twitter bio to read, “Chrissy’s husband. Father of Luna & Miles. No relation to Arthur,” and even poked fun at himself by dressing like Arthur for a Google commercial last April.

For a while, the Grammy winner’s resemblance to Arthur was forgotten…until Teigen revived the viral Arthur meme and managed to skewer John Legend, all in one fell swoop.
Teigen took to Instagram to share a photo of the couple’s daughter Luna holding a stuffed doll of Arthur, the caption reading “Luna and Daddy.”
Fans lost it.
Later, in the comments section of her own post, Teigen took it one step further by revealing to her followers that the doll actually belonged to her as a child and that “maybe I’ve been attracted to Arthur my whole life and now I found my real life human one.” Legend had a one-word response: “Wow.”
The cookbook author then proceeded to share an image the Arthur poster, except with John Legend literally as Arthur, the name ‘Legend’ superimposed in place of the title. Teigen credited the artist in her caption, but not before writing out the entire Arthur theme song:
This post brought out John Mayer, of all people, to the comments section. “Find someone who looks at you like Chrissy Teigen looks at ways to take the legs out from under John Legend,” wrote Mayer.
Soon afterwards, Teigen posted another Instagram meme. This time, she made fun of herself as well as Legend (misrepresented in the image as Arthur’s dad) under a superimpsoed caption reading “When you find your cartoon soulmate.”
Legend had the final word on Sunday. Taking matters into his own hands, he posted an adorable picture of Luna playing with her grandfather (Legend’s father.) Featured in the photo was…that darn Arthur doll.
“Luna and Grandpa (and a stuffed animal whose name we shall not speak),” he captioned the image.
We impatiently await the next installment of Chrissy Teigen and John Legend’s Meme Battle.
