Fox News Booked The Wrong Guest And Accidentally Aired A Harsh Anti-Trump Screed

Fox News is indistinguishable from pro-Trump state-run TV at this point, but that doesn’t mean they’re always good at it. Today, Fox & Friends First accidentally introduced their viewers to some real news after a booking screw-up resulted in a vociferously anti-Trump Democrat getting on the air instead of the pro-ICE Democrat the hosts wanted. Shining like a beam of pure sunlight through Fox’s cloudy bullsh*t storm, the woman delivered some hard truths about Trump’s disgusting child internment policy. Oops!

Panic set in on the set of Fox & Friends First today after the hosts tried to bring on pro-ICE Democratic candidate Ann Kirkpatrick and instead brought on anti-ICE Massachusetts State Senator Barbara L’Italien:

Aware of the rare opportunity to speak truth to millions of drooling morons who uncritically consume Fox’s right-wing pro-Trump propaganda, L’Italien came with a message:

“Good morning. I’m actually here to speak directly to Donald Trump,” L’Italien said.“I feel that what’s happening at the border is wrong. I’m a mother of four and I believe that separating kids from their parents is illegal and inhumane. I’m actually Barbara L’Italien. I’m a state senator representing a large immigrant community. I’m running for Congress in Massachusetts. I keep thinking about what we’re putting parents through, imagining how terrifying that must be for those families, imagining how it would feel not knowing if I’d ever see my kids again. We have to stop abducting children and ripping them from their parents’ arms, stop putting kids in cages, and stop making 3-year-old defend themselves in court.”

The two hosts tried to do some damage control, offering spin that some families had been reunited and ignoring that the Trump administration still doesn’t have a coherent plan to reunite the rest.

Then the hosts just fell back on the ol’ reliable “cut the mic” strategy, taking L’Italien off the air.

“Yeah, OK, who is this?” asked “Fox & Friend” Rob Schmitt. “That didn’t go as planned.”

I’ll say!

“We were told Ann Kirkpatrick was going to be on the show,” one host said after returning from a break. “As you saw, somebody else stepped in front of the camera. We are working to figure out how that happened.”

What happened, according to ThinkProgress, is that Fox & Friends First reached out to the wrong staff and didn’t know enough to check whether the woman they were speaking to was who she said she was.

“They reached out to our staff believing they were reaching the Kirkpatrick office due to their own failure of due diligence,” L’Talien told ThinkProgress.

“Over the process of getting the interview scheduled, they repeatedly showed very little grasp on the facts, down to whether or not Ann Kirkpatrick was still in Congress. Fox News is where you go when you want to talk to Donald Trump, and Barbara felt she had an obligation to her constituents to take advantage of that opportunity. But this would not have happened to an actual news station. Fox’s lack of attention to the facts normally is a disaster for the country, it just so happened that today it was embarrassing for them.”

Good, keep trolling the trolls.
