President Donald Trump has broken his silence on the woman accusing SCOTUS nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault, and—surprise, surprise—he’s being totally awful. In a series of tweets Friday morning, Trump claimed that if Palo Alto professor Christine Blasey Ford’s alleged sexual assault at the hands of Kavanaugh back when the two were teenagers was “as bad as she says,” there would be police reports, and he’s demanding to see them.
To answer his question about why no one called the FBI 36 years ago: because teenagers who are sexually assaulted don’t typically report it to the FBI, or to the police. Because they know they will go through hell and be blamed and have their assertions questioned and their characters torn apart, and it’s easier just to keep it a secret and feel bad about themselves.
Trump’s attack on Dr. Ford is par for the course, it’s just surprising he didn’t come out against her sooner. On Thursday, CNN ran a headline reading, “Aides quietly stunned by Trump’s respectful handling of Kavanaugh accuser.”
Welp, that sure didn’t last long.
People on Twitter were furious.
There really is no limit to how low Trump will sink.
